About Mermaid Cove
Beach Rental:

  • Location: Mermaid Cove is about 10 miles west of town and an easy few minute walk to the beach just down the street. The beach on our street is not crowded like some other beaches in town and can be reached without crossing any busy street or highway. We provide a beach cart to help you haul chairs, toys and other beach gear to the sand. Bring your dog to enjoy our dog friendly beach. While you can’t see the ocean directly from the deck, you can certainly hear the surf and feel the sea breeze. The neighborhood is very dark at night which makes for amazing star gazing on cloudless nights and early mornings before the sun peeks above the horizon.
  • 3 bedrooms, sleeps 7: The Master has a comfy king size bed and a twin bed nestled in a nook separated from the king with curtains for a bit of privacy. If renting for a month or two during the winter (as many "snowbirds" like to do) we will be hapy to remove the twin from the master and turn it back into a sitting area. The "Mermaid Room" has a full-size bed and a twin. The "Captain's Bunk" has a twin size bed built up over deep drawers. The Ikea sofa also pulls out to a bed if your group is a little flexible.
  • Downstairs Game Room: The game room is a great place for teens to hang out and play games or watch TV. It is separated from the upstairs and can be reached by going through the garage. It has a one-of-a-kind swinging twin size bed and a sofa/futon that folds down to a full size bed. The downstairs game room cannot be listed as accommodations because the interior walls are unfinished. But feel free to check in with us as it can be used as a flex space if it is suitable to your group. Keep in mind there is only one full bath, so it could be a challenge to expand above the standard 7 guests, but technically, the home can sleep up to 11.
  • Dining: The dining room is small and seats 4, the bar off the kitchen seats 2 and 2 can also sit at the game table. The outside table seats 4 plus extra chairs to fit in at least 6.
  • Bathrooms: Mermaid Cove has 1 full and 2 half baths. The main bathroom offers a tub/shower combo, the master has it's own powder room and there is a powder room downstairs in the gameroom. There is also an outdoor shower to rinse away the sand and salt after a day at the beach. Hair dryer is in the main bathroom.
  • Fully equipped kitchen: The kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of dishes and flatware, all the standard cooking tools including large stock pots (for those crab boils), blender, mixer, crock pot, large drink dispenser, 2 slice toaster, regular coffee maker and a Keurig. I make every effort to keep a wide range of cookware and serving ware because people seem to always be hungry at the beach!
  • Pets: Dogs are very welcome, we don't have a fence around the yard yet, but it is on the list for us to do soon. The beach in our neighborhood is dog friendly, but dogs should be kept on a leash. Not all beach-goers (or their dogs) are friendly. If you allow your pets on the furniture, please bring blankets or covers to protect our furniture and fabrics for longevity.
  • Additional Amenities: We have one TV upstairs and one downstairs with ATT Uverse channels, WiFi internet and a phone for emergencies.
  • Washer and Dryer: The stacking washer/dryer combo is small, but it will save you the headache of going home with loads of wet and dirty laundry.
  • Beach chairs and toys: Beach chairs seem to deteriorate and dissappear faster than I can replace them. But I do make efforts to keep an assortment of beach chairs and lots of toys. Some guests have even left behind various floaties and beach balls.
  • Deck: I am very excited about our new deck furniture made of heavy duty, mildew-resistant Polywood. I hope you find this table and chair set to be comfortable and sturdy. We also have several Adirondak style chairs for lounging and side tables for beverages. We have cusions for the chairs that are stored inside so they can stay clean.
  • Rates: Rates vary by season and run between $125 to $325 per night. See the Inquire Now tab for more details.
  • About the Owners: We, Cindy and Scot Wingo, purchased the adorable beach cottage in 2014 and enjoyed it so much, we wanted to share it's charm with others. Although we live full-time in Dallas, we have family in Galveston, and like to come down as often as our busy schedules allow. The name, Mermaid Cove, came about when we received a "welcome to the island" gift from realtor, Cy Eilers with Sand n Sea Properties, of a beautiful mermaid statue. The mermaid keeps watch over the cottage on the ledge above the refrigerator.
